Christmas Party
During Christmas, both young and old will
gather around for a Christmas party. Traditional Christmas foods like
turkey, brownies, apple pie, baked cookies and salad will be eaten;
drink such as wine, cocktail and eggnog will be served. After the party,
the sound of Christmas carols and songs will fill the air, as laughter
and smiels are exchanged over Christmas presents, fun indoor and outdoor
games, chats and dancing throughout the night. Most will wish all good
things in the world and appreciate how grateful they are for many
blessings in their lives.
Christmas Tree
The first Christmas tree without lights
appeared in Alsace in 1521. In 17th century, Christmas trees were
illuminated with little candles. Other variations like outdoor and
artificial Christmas trees appeared around the beginning of the 20th
century. Now, common decorations on Christmas tree include start which
represented start of Bethlehem, candles which represented the light of
Christ coming into the world, evergreens which is the symbol of eternal
life, and the candy, fruits, and pastries which represented goodness of
our life in Christ and the fruits of the spirit.
Christmas Carols
Popular Christmas carols symbolize
everything that Christmas stands for: gathering of families and friends,
joy, peace, and the Christmas spirit. Hum the melody of "Jingle Bells",
and most people will imagine snowflakes, angels and Christmas bells.
However, there is actually a difference between a 'Christmas carol' and
a 'Christmas song'. Christmas carols can often be sung by a choir and
usually have simple and straightforward rhythms. This is rarely the case
for pop and rock songs, which often have more complex lyrics and
rhythms.
Christmas Card
The first Christmas card originated from
England in 1843. Most people send Christmas greeting cards to their
friends and family. The cards will then be hung on the wall of their
homes. Traditionally, Christmas cards showed religious pictures - Mary,
Joseph and baby Jesus, or other parts of the Christmas story. Today,
pictures are often jokes, winter pictures, Christmas decorations. Father
Christmas, or romantic scenes of life in past times.
